His romance with Bhagmati aroused a lot of tittle-tattle and controversy. He lovingly called her Hyder Mahal and named the city Hyderabad in her honour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many monuments were built during this era that showcases their architectural prowess, elegant taste and grandiose. Charminar &#8211; a four-pillared magnificence and Golconda Fort &#8211; a stone acropolis are at the top of the list. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Nizam Rule<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asaf Jahi Dynasty also called the family of the Nizams of Hyderabad is exalted in Hyderabad. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nizams were ahead of their times in planning and infrastructure and paved a path to Modern Hyderabad. Great engineers were summoned from all around the country and appointed as advisors to the court of the Nizam. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in 1917, when city planning was still in a nascent stage, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar were constructed to provide the entire city with drinking water. A City Improvement Board was formed to minister construction of roads, markets, residences and shopping centres. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The buildings of utility like the Legislative Assembly, the High Court, the Osmania University, the Secunderabad Railway Station that were bricked during this era are still a benchmark for planning, exquisite taste and architecture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chowmahalla Palace built by the Nizam was awarded the prestigious UNESCO Asia Pacific Merit Award.
